Our Farm Story

A young lad in his 20’s from New Zealand decided to travel to America with his haversack pack on his back looking for adventure. After traveling across the United States, he was destined to meet an Alaskan girl who shared his same deep seeded passion for sheep farming. Only having “some knowledge” about farming but mainly pivoting off both their dreams, Haversack Farm was established in a small NC town in 2004. Hobby farming at its best, hundreds of lambs were born but they were soon pushed out by the growth of the sprawling nearby city.

With the couples continued passionate heart for sheep farming in 2017 a larger plot of land was purchased in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and South Mountain Sheep & Lamb was born in Vale NC. The couple and their now teenage children would once again start building a farm from raw land but this time with a new twist. Their main goal was to produce one-hundred percent pasture raised sustainable grass-fed sheep which nutritionally produces lamb with a higher omega 6:3 profile.
